The Tragedy Of Hamlet Essays (947 words) - Shakespearean Tragedies
The Tragedy of Hamlet Arguably, the best piece of writing ever done by William Shakespeare, Hamlet is the classic example of a tragedy. In all tragedies the hero suffers, and usually dies at the end. Othello stabs himself, Romeo and Juliet commit suicide, Brutis falls on his sword, and like them Hamlet dies by getting cut with a poison tipped sword. But that is not all tht is need to consider a play a tragedy, and sometimes a hero doesn't even need to die. Not every play in which a hero dies is considered a tragedy. There are more elements needed to label a play one. Probably the most important element is an amount of free will. In every tragedy, the characters must display some. If every action is controlled by a hero's destiny, then the hero's death can't be avoided, and in a tragedy the sad part is tht it could. Hamlet's death could have been avoided many times. Hamlet had many opportunities to kill Claudius, but didn't take advantage of them. He also had the option of making his claim public, but instead he chose not too. A tragic hero doesn't need to be good. For example, MacBeth was evil, yet he was a tragic hero, because he had free will. He also had only one flaw, and that was pride. He had many good traits such as bravery, but his one bad trait made him evil. Also a tragic hero doesn't' have to die. While in all Shakespearean tragedies, the hero dies, in others he may live but suffer oral Destruction In Oedipus Rex, the proud yet morally blind king plucks his eyes out, and has to spend his remaining days as a wandering, sightless beggar, guided at every painful step by his daughter, Antigone. A misconception about tragedies is that nothing good comes out of them, but it is actually the opposite. In Romeo and Juliet, although both die, they end the feud between the Capulets and the Montegues. Also, Romeo and Juliet can be together in heaven. In Hamlet, although Hamlet dies, it is almost the best. How could he have any pleasure during the rest of his life, with his parents and Ophelia dead. Also, although Hamlet dies, he is able to kill Claudius and get rid of the evil ruling of the throne. Every tragic play must have a tragic hero. The tragic hero must possess many good traits, as well as one flaw, which eventually leads to his downfall. A tragic hero must be brave and noble. In Othello, Othello had one fatal flaw, he was too great. Othello was too brave, too noble, and especially too proud to allow himself to be led back to Venice in chains. A tragic hero must not back down from his position. He also had to have free will, in order to stand up for what he believes in. Finally, the audience must have some sympathy for the tragic hero. In Macbeth, although MacBeth commits many murders, one almost feels sorry for him and his fate. Hamlet is the perfect example of the tragic hero. Hamlet has all the good traits needed to be a tragic hero. He is brave and daring. One example of this is that when he went to England, he was taking a big risk. If his plan didn't work, he would have been executed. He also is loyal. His loyalty to his father, was the reason he was so angry at Claudius and his mother. Another trait was that he was intelligent. He was able to think up the idea of faking insanity, in order to get more information about Claudius. But Hamlet like all other tragic heros had a flaw. He couldn't get around to doing anything, because he couldn't move on. He was a full grown adult, yet he still attended school in England, because he couldn't move on. Also, it took him a long time to stop grieving about his father, because he didn't want to move past that party of his life. And after he finally did, Hamlet couldn't get around to killing Claudius. He kept pretending he was insane even after he was sure that Clau dius killed his father. The final

God Created The Heavens And The Earth Religion Essay Example
God Created The Heavens And The Earth Religion Essay Example God Created The Heavens And The Earth Religion Essay God Created The Heavens And The Earth Religion Essay Out of pure clemency, Jesus Christ, the Son of the life God, was born of a virgin, into our sin-sick universe in order to salvage evildoers, in order to salvage you, in order to salvage me. Jesus was and is to the full God and to the full human. Jesus went to the cross of Calvary to cast his blood in order to deliver us from the punishment of wickedness and decease we chose out of freewill when we disobeyed God in the garden. What astonishing grace! We are forgiven and given ageless life, and are set free to populate copiously by God s raising Jesus from the dead! We can so execute the undertaking for which we were born and reborn: to be proclaimers of God s love and grace through the salvation made possible by Christ s caducous blood. When the extravagant returns place, oh what a jubilation! When the profligate in us returns place to the unconditioned loving attention of our Lord and Savior, we are transformed into new creative activities in Christ. Old things have passed off ; beho ld, all things have become new! Out of pure grace, the Holy Spirit lives within us to deliver us on a continual footing from our egoistic ways. The Spirit within us testifies that Jesus Is Lord of all of life, of all we say, of all we do. God s Spirit and power within us points us to the Christ-centered manner, truth and life that leads to the Higher Land we all know in the deepnesss of our existences to be our true place. Our Black Marias are so ungratified until we rest in the healing love that the Holy Spirit pours into every fibre of our being. By the power of the Holy Spirit, we are sustained, our psyches are nourished, we are blessed, we are given the grace to offer ourselves as life forfeits of gratitude to God [ 1 ], and we can be poured out to bless others in Jesus name. : The Holy Bible is the true Word of God.[ 2 ]Inspired by the Holy Spirit, the Holy Bible is our authorization for life and our regulation for religion and pattern in a universe in which we are sojourners. Jesus Christ is the Head of the Church, and as the Good Shepherd, Christ trusts His shepherds to nurture His flock with the announcement of the good intelligence of the land of God. As the Second Helvetic Confession tells us, the Word preached in our churches IS the word of God.[ 3 ]By God s autonomous grace, we are gathered in peculiar churches to idolize God, and we are sent into the universe as God s accommodating community, entrusted with God s message of rapprochement.[ 4 ]In a battalion of sort and loving Acts of the Apostless, words and workss, the Church as the household of God serves as informants to our neighbours of God s crowned head, salvaging, and gracious love. We capture the attending of the lost sheep among us by the simple storytelling of what God has done in our ai n lives. In that winsome informant, powered by Christ s anointment, the Holy Spirit overwhelmingly draws people to see God s love in a simple, yet life-changing manner. Our Lord has instituted two Sacraments, Baptism and the Lord s Supper, for our nutriment and for the mission God has for each of us and for our folds. The Sacraments are the seeable marks of the unseeable grace of God, and are holy marks and seals of the compact of grace. [ 5 ]The Sacraments are designed to direct our religion to the one forfeit of Jesus Christ on the cross as the lone land of redemption.[ 6 ]Merely like taking a shower and holding the H2O rinse away the soil of the twenty-four hours, in Baptism we are washed clean by the Holy Spirit and the caducous blood of Jesus, who washes off our wickednesss and secures for us forgiveness and ageless life with God. The Scots Confession tells us that in Baptism we are engrafted into Christ, whereby we partake of his righteousness, by which our wickednesss are covered and remitted.[ 7 ]We die to our old life and are raised to new life in Christ. In the Lord s Supper, Christ is so united with us that He becomes the really nourishm ent and nutrient of our psyches.[ 8 ]We are nourished unto life ageless by the broken organic structure, the staff of life of life, and the caducous blood, the cup of redemption, of our risen Lord Jesus Christ. We do this in recollection of Christ, who has become our Passover Lamb. We are reminded each clip we drink the Lord s cup and partake of His organic structure, that Jesus genuinely died on a cross for us-that his organic structure was broken for us, and that his blood was shed for us. In times of proving, we have assurance that our Lord will beef up us through these sacraments, and will corroborate in our Black Marias that nil will divide us from the love of God in Christ Jesus. We wait in awe and admiration for Christ to come once more, and in the interim, we work for peace and justness in Christ s land both in the church and beyond its walls. In all, God is the 1 who calls, who woos, who initiates, who forgives, who is the compassionate I Am, and the One who proves God s fidelity in every flower, in every babe s coo , in every loved one s soft touch, in every sparrow doing its nest, in every heart-felt call of a psyche necessitating its Jesus: Take Our Hands, Precious Lord, lead us place![ 9 ]

Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl, Written by Herself by Harriet Essay
Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl, Written by Herself by Harriet Jacobs - Essay Example To help us understand this, we will tackle three topics; how slavery is more damaging to women than men, life in the North after the escape of Jacobs and how slavery undermined families in the south. Q1 Harriet Jacobs wrote a tale about life as slave and the challenges that she had to experience. The story exposes the bodily and emotional abuses a female has to endure when she is a slave. The story shows how women underwent terrible and traumatizing brutality of slavery than their male counterparts. Jacobs like many other slave women were sexually harassed by their white masters. According to the story, Jacobs was sexually teased and manipulated by Mr. Flint her master. Dr. Flint would usually remind her that she was her property and that he could as well do whatever he wanted with her. This made Jacobââ¬â¢s life to be uncomfortable and fearful. Dr. Flint would meet Jacobs at every turn, and remind her that she belonged to him, and swear by heaven and earth that one day, she will make her agree to her advancements. The situation was so traumatizing that Jacobs could hear Dr. Flintââ¬â¢s footsteps when she was relaxing after a long day of work. Whenever Jacobs would visit her motherââ¬â¢s grave, she would see a dark shadow of Dr. Flint following her. Life was so horrible for slave women that sexual exploitation was a daily affair for them. Jacob and other female slaves were psychologically abused and perplexed. They were subjected to abusive traditions that were thought to be socially right. For instance, for a female slave to be deemed a lady in the south, there were harsh conditions that they had to abide. This made Jacobs be haunted by the loss of her innocence when she was a kid. White females were required to keep themselves pure, and their homes were protected by the law and they had the freedom of choosing their partners. Female slaves on similarly, had no liberty to decide their partners, and it was hard for them to preserve themselves or to kee p themselves pure. Females were made to live in despair. Female slaves had to endure the hardships of motherhood in very harsh conditions. Motherhood set a different experience of women slaves from their male counterparts. Female slaves were subjected to a hard situation whereby they are forced to prioritize their activities Jacobs had to prioritize between being a slave and being a mother concerned about the welfare of her children. After Jacobs had learnt that Dr. Flint wanted to make her and her children slaves, she took the risk of escaping to save the destiny of her children, despite knowing the consequences that would happen to her if she was caught. Jacobs risked her body and mind and lived in complete seclusion in order for her children to be free. Female slaves were in charge of their families more than the slave fathers. The role of slave fathers was not much significant as they were sold far from their families. Q3 Though the north is seen as not supporting slavery, discr imination is very rampant. Whites and light skinned blacks are treated differently from the blacks. Black women were not supposed to mix with the whites in the North. Jacobs remembers a situation when she was the only black maid in a hotel and was unfairly treated. She was shown a seat in the hotel where she sat down, only for the waiter to come and tell her to sit the baby in the chair and to stand behind it on her feet. Jacob was told to wait to be shown where she was to take her meal from, which turned out to be the

Below the line marketing activities Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words
Below the line marketing activities - Essay Example Below the line, efforts should ââ¬Å"aspire to establish targeted relationships between marketers and individual consumers, and offer comparable ease in measurability (V12 Group, 2006: 2). The key term in this definition is measurability, which is something that below the line efforts provide. However, a below the line activity such as the distribution of target customer promotional cards would indicate the volume of promotional literature returned, offering a specific return ratio based on percentages sent and volume returned. When using this type of below the line marketing, it is clear to see that a significant advantage lies in measurability for the sake of strategic or operational planning. Carter (2006) offers a wider variety of activities associated with below the line marketing, including text message promotions, sales catalogs, trade shows and public relations events. Unlike above the line efforts which are generally variable in cost, below the line efforts are usually fixe d fees associated with the promotion. The development of various keychains or other logo-inspired products used for promotion would be common items of the below the line marketing activity. Flack (2008) offers the importance of below the line promotion by suggesting that the consumer population has evolved far beyond the traditional, promotional writing pen, thus companies need to come up with a more brand-focused and innovative series of promotional materials in order to capture the sophisticated consumer attention.

Animal Farm: Stalin And Napoleon :: Animal Farm Essays
The novel Animal Farm, by George Orwell, was an allegory about the Russian Revolution in which the author used a farm and itââ¬â¢s members to symbolize major characters and their actions. In this composition, I will reveal to you many of Joseph Stalinââ¬â¢ s important contributions and how they relate to the actions of Napoleon from Animal Farm. I will break this topic down into the following three parts, their rise to power, Stalinââ¬â¢s Five Year Plan, and their use and abuse of authority. When Lenin died in 1924, a struggle for power began between Trotsky (Snowball) and Stalin (Napoleon). Trotsky was a brilliant individual, but Stalin was just a simple person whose power was based on allegiances with other members of the communist party rather than on ideas. This is contrary to how Snowball was the more intelligent one of the two and all the sheep and pigs were loyal to Napoleon. Trotsky believed in Russiaââ¬â¢s trying to spread communism all over the world as Snowballââ¬â¢s purpose with animalism and Stalin was more focused on the prosperity of Russia, as was Napoleon about the wellness of the farm. By 1929, Stalin had gathered enough resources to exile Trotsky from Russia just as Napoleon did to Snowball. Stalin believed that Russia was one hundred years behind the west. He devised his Five Year Plan to bring Russia up to speed with the rest of the world. This plan included many of Trotskyââ¬â¢s ideas, which Stalin had previously opposed. We can relate this to the building of the windmill in Animal Farm and how Napoleon was against the idea until after the expulsion of Snowball. Russiaââ¬â¢s economy was centralized on agriculture with over twenty five million farms. Unfortunately, the majority of these barely produced enough to feed the families of those who worked them. Farmers who had a surplus of produce were called kulaks. Stalin decided he would "liquidate the kulaks as a class" under collective agriculture. He believed that once the population of "those just getting by" saw the benefits that they would receive from these state-run farms, they would immediately approve, and thatââ¬â¢s just what they did. Unfortunately for Stalin, the kulaks did not li ke this idea. In protest, they destroyed their livestock and tools and burned their crops or let them rot in the fields. This event is displayed in Animal Farm when Napoleon decides to sell the chickens' eggs for the benefit of the farm.

Four Pââ¬â¢s in Foreign Policy Essay
By analyzing the war on Iraq using the 4 Pââ¬â¢s framework given by Bruce W. Jentleson in his Book American Foreign Policy, it seems that the US national interest goal cannot be simultaneously satisfied in most of the cases. Iraq became a US threat in 1990 when former Iraqi dictator, Saddam Hussein, led the invasion of Kuwait. US, supported by the United Nations and many other countries, went to war for the first time against Iraq. The US troops expelled the Iraqi troops out of Kuwait and reestablished order in that country. This did not mean that the threat was over; Saddam Hussein became an ââ¬Å"enemyâ⬠of the United States. After the terrorist attacks in the United States, President George Bush started a war on terror, a war which main purpose is to finish any kind of threats all over the world. According to President Bush, Saddam Hussein with his anti-American sentiment and the ââ¬Å"possessionâ⬠of biological and chemical weapons was one of these threats. The proposal of a new war against Iraq came from George Bush. This war was supposed to be based on the core goals of American Foreign Policy (The 4 Pââ¬â¢s). Power: Iraq was considered as one of the biggest enemies of the United States, more than the country itself; the enemy was its leader, Saddam Hussein. An active threat could not only harm US allies in the Middle East but also other countries in the world, even America. The risk was too big and some actions should be taken. America should protect itself and its interests. Peace: Iraq could also deter world peace as it did before. Saddam Husseinââ¬â¢s greed and power could result in another invasion to a Middle Eastern country. The United States had also a big responsibility in this aspect, as one of the most powerful countries in the world, it was necessary an US intervention in order to preserve the worldââ¬â¢s peace. Even though the United States was breaking the peace by going to war against Iraq, this war was necessary to avoid a bigger disaster. Prosperity: The economic national interest was also involved in this war. Iraq has the second largest oil reserves in the world, but also Iraqââ¬â¢sà neighbors, like Kuwait, are important oil providers to the US. Since the safety of these countries was in danger America should protect them, and at the same time protect its own economical interests. Principles: Saddam Hussein was a brutal dictator who committed mass murder against his own people. There were no civil rights in Iraq, repression and tortures were common denominators in the country. George Bush also wanted to bring freedom to the Iraqi people and all the rights that were taken from them. After the war was over some of these goals were not achieved, totally. The main reason to start this war was Saddam Husseinââ¬â¢s possession of biological chemical weapons. These weapons or any proof that they existed have not yet been found. Peace was also broken, and even months after the war is over and Saddam Hussein has been captured, there still is not peace in Iraq. Many innocent people died during this war, and today people are still dying as a consequence of that war. The United States violated several provisions established by the United Nations. The US was supported by some countries but it was not the same number of supporters as in the first war against Iraq. The UN and countries like France did not give all their support to this war. On the other hand, prosperity and principles goals were achieved or are on the road to be achieved. The US provides more security to many oil producers in the Middle East and it will also gain a new provider, Iraq (This is the reason which I believe the war started). Also democracy is on its way to be established in Iraq; people are recovering many of their rights and freedom. As Jentleson explained in his book sometimes some goals have to be sacrificed in order to achieved the others.
